Employment, Training and Education

AIM To assist the offender to find gainful employment. To increase the offender’s employment potential through training and education. WHO Offenders who are not currently working and where an OASys score of 3 or more in OASys section 4 indicates a need for an employment, training or education based intervention.

WHAT

Within a Supervision Requirement, Unpaid Work Requirement or Licence support and assistance through partnerships and agencies to find employment.

An ETE Specified Activity Requirement is being developed which will deliver a series of workwise structured rationally group work sessions which will meet the following objectives :

• To assist the offender to find and obtain gainful and sustainable employment.
• To offer or direct the offender to take careers advice.
• Increase their motivation to access education, training and employment support and resources.
• Signposted or directed towards basic skills training.
• Develop the skills required to access education, training and employment resources.

HOW

Within a Supervision Requirement and as part of the sentence plan, referral to employment agencies and partnerships to assist and support the offender from welfare to work.

Within a Specified Activity Requirement for a period of up to 8 -60 days. This will include, depending on the length of the requirement, the following elements:

• Pre and post intervention assessments.
• Practical and cognitive skills development.
• Support and assistance with job search.
• Access to local provision and information.
• Referrals to appropriate agencies.
• Practical support.

NEXT STEP

At the report stage ensure that an employment, training and education assessment is undertaken and where appropriate an assessment for a specified activity requirement.

At the sentence planning stage refer to the local ETE PSO.
