Finance, Benefit and Debt

AIM

To assist the offender to more effectively manage their finances and take control of their debts.

WHO

Offenders who are identified as having money management or debt problems by scoring 3 or above in OASys section 5 and whose financial difficulties are linked to harm/offending behaviour.

 

 

 

WHAT

Delivery within a Supervision Requirement or Licence and referred to in the sentence plan.

A short course is currently being developed which meets the following objectives.

• To improve the offender’s ability to manage their finances more effectively.
• To improve the offender’s understanding of how they have run up debts.
• To assist the offender to manage their debts.


HOW

• Completion of a financial assessment as part of OASys at the report stage.
• An assessment of welfare benefits and assistance to manage problems.
• Promotion of back to work benefits.
• Referral to a debt counselling service.
• Referral to money management course.


NEXT STEP

At the report stage indicate what planned work will be required to meet the needs identified in the assessment.

During sentence planning refer to the local PSO leading on Finance, Benefit and Debt issues as part of the SMART objectives in the sentence plan.
