OASys Assessment Accurate assessment lies at the heart of what we do. This involves ensuring that the reasons for offenders commiting crime are fully explored at both pre and post sentence and that risk management plans are in place to reduce the risk of re-offending and harm by offenders under supervision. To do this Probation Areas / Trusts use a computer system called OASys (Offender Assessment System). The
successful delivery of Probation work relies on the foundation of careful
and accurate assessment by the offender manager. In the process of preparing
assessments, the offender manager will have collected as much relevant
information as possible about the offender including full details of the
offender's criminal history. It is the task of the offender manager to
use the initial assessment to produce a sentence plan that is matched
to the offender's needs and identifies appropriate priorities.
